Amazing. Beautiful! (play with sound)
A new BBC television series (first episode will be broadcast on Sunday, August 10)
"Britain seen from Above shows the unseen ballet of Britain & the great migrations across our landscape using satellite tracking & ground-breaking computer imaging."
It looks fantastic!
"Moodstream is a brainstorming tool" that mixes images and video from the depths of getty images' archives with music. Productivity has plummeted, I'm spending the weekend turning knobs here
"This google-interface behaves similar to a unix-shell. You type commands and the results are shown on this page."
Luis von Ahn! His work on getting people to work on problems that are hard for computers is fascinating on so many levels. On one hand, he succeeds in overcoming the inner sloth by turning many of his mechanics into game-like challenges. On another level, it's one of my favorite examples of bionic computing -- putting people (and social connections) together with computing power and asynchronicity. Fascinating, fascinating. If you get a chance, listen to his classic Google tech talk.
"GWAP and the new games - Tag a tune, Squigl, Verbosity, and Matchin, puts von Ahn and his team at Carnegie Mellon by a wide margin at the forefront of tapping into human cycles to do jobs that computers only can solve poorly or not at all."
